General Summary of Position:

Incumbents of positions in this series operate boilers and related equipment; read meters and gauges at specified intervals; open and close valves and adjust controls; check/monitor operating systems to detect faulty operating equipment. This position is for second shift, Tuesday - Saturday, 2pm - 10pm.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Valid Massachusetts 2nd Class Steam Fireman (for Steam Fireman I) or 1st Class Steam Fireman license (for Steam Fireman II) pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws


Special Instructions to Applicants:


Only Internal (MTA-Maintenance & Trades Bargaining Union) candidates will be considered during the first 10 business days of the positing.  All other candidates will be considered after that period.

This is an MTA - Maintenance & Trades Bargaining Union position, Grade 15 MTU, Step 1 $1,984.04 – Step 14 $2,785.63.


This position is for second shift, Tuesday - Saturday, 2pm - 10pm.
