Position Description:

The Department of Biomedical & Nutritional Sciences (BNS), part of the Zuckerberg College of Health Sciences (ZCHS) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML), is seeking part-time Adjunct Instructors to teach in the undergraduate Applied Biomedical Sciences (ABS) program, which includes a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program. This posting is to ensure that we have strong candidates in our adjunct instructor pool for any immediate and/or future needs. There are a variety of teaching opportunities in both lecture and laboratory courses. Selected candidates will become an integral part of the program, working in collaboration with full-time ABS program faculty and staff, many of whom are MLS(ASCP) certified. Teaching opportunities may vary by semester.

UML, ZCHS, and BNS are committed to increasing diversity among the faculty, staff, and student populations in all their programs, while promoting an all-inclusive environment. We welcome candidates whose educational mission and personal/professional values align with ours.

Minimum qualifications (required):

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science field, with proper experience, for laboratory courses (master’s or higher preferred), and a minimum of a master’s degree for lecture courses (doctoral preferred, but master’s with special skills and/or proper experience will be considered).
  • The desire and ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English, both verbal and written.

Additional considerations:

  • Candidates having previous teaching experience at the university/college level are most desirable and will be given priority.
  • Candidates having both a graduate degree and MLS(ASCP) certification will be given priority.
  • Candidates with qualifications to teach in more than one area or program will be given priority.
  • Some MLS-specific courses will require demonstrated and suitable years-long training and work experience in an MLS environment, including MLS(ASCP) certification.

Special Instructions to Applicants:

This is a part-time, non-benefited position under the Union of Adjunct Faculty, Local 1596, UAW. Please include a current CV and cover letter with your application. The names and contact information of three references may be requested upon completion of a screening interview. Submission of a teaching philosophy, teaching evaluations, and evidence of teaching is optional. Applicants will be reviewed if/when needed until a hire is made. The position may close within one year if no one is hired, at which time the posting would be refreshed to rebuild the adjunct pool.
